KEWPIE’S CARMEL CORN

Yield: about 15 nice eating pieces
Ingredients
- 1/2 - 10 oz can popcorn
- 2 cups brown sugar, tightly packed
- 3 tbsp. light or dark corn syrup
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- Pinch of baking soda
Directions
- First you pop the corn. Then cook the sugar, syrup, & margarine in a large saucepan, stirring constantly, till a few drops of syrup tested in cold water feel brittle. Remove from heat, stir in soda and popcorn. Stir corn around with a large fork till well coated, then smooth it out on a buttered platter or a piece of waxed paper. When candy is cool and hard, break into about 15 nice eating pieces. If you want to make them into balls, fill up your muffin tins and they come out just dandy!

- stir constantly while cooking; cool until hard
Temperature
- cook until syrup dropped in cold water feels brittle; cool until hard

- large saucepan; cold-water test container; large fork; buttered platter or waxed paper; muffin tins for optional balls
Notes
- optional form: fill muffin tins to make the candy into balls
