Apple Sauce Cake
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups cake flour.
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves,
- 1/3 to 1/2 cup shortening - 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg, unbeaten
- 1 Cup unsweetened, tart applesauce, or canned
- 1 cup seedless raisins
Directions
- Sift flour, measure, and sift 3 times with soda, spices + salt.
- Cream shortening well and gradually blend in sugar.
- Add egg and beat until light and fluffy; Then stir in applesauce.
- Add flour mixture in 3 portions, beating after each addition until well blended.
- Stir in raisins.
- Turn into cake pan (8 in square) lined & with thin plain paper, in bottom.
- Bake in moderate oven (350°F) 45 min.
- Or bake in greased muffin tins or two 8 inch layer 25 to 30 min.
- Cool before serving.
