Mrs. Jordan’s White Bread.

Yield: Makes five loaves.

Ingredients

  • 2 packages or envelopes yeast
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 4 cups boiling water
  • 1/4 pound margarine
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 8 teaspoons salt.
  • About 5 pounds flour (20 cups)

Directions

  1. Mix yeast and warm water in a warm bowl and stir in enough flour to make a heavy paste. Cover and let stand about an hour.
  2. In the meantime, mix boiling water and margarine and let cool to luke warm. When cool, add sugar and salt. Add to yeast mixture, then add all the flour it will take.
  3. Knead dough until smooth and elastic. Put into bowl. Let stand in bowl (with top greased) until doubled.
  4. Cut dough into five portions, Place in greased bread tins … Bake at 400 degrees 3/4 hour, or at 375 - degrees for one hour,
