Apple Pan Dowdy
Ingredients
- 4 large tart apples
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/3 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1/2 cup lukewarm water
- Rich Baking-powder Biscuit dough
Directions
- Pare, core, and cut apples into eighths.
- Arrange them in a well buttered baking dish, and sprinkle with the brown sugar into which the spices and salt have been stirred. Dot with butter, + pour the water over all.
- Cover with a rich baking-powder biscuit dough rolled not more than 1/2 inch thick.
- Bake in slow oven (300°-325°F) for 25 to 30 minutes or until the crust is delicately browned and the apples are tender.
- Serve warm with plain, sweet, heavy cream or with your favorite hard sauce.
