CHOCOLATE PINWHEEL COOKIES:

Yield: Makes about 5 dozen 2in. cookies.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup soft shortening, (half butter);
  • 3/4 cup sugar;
  • 1 egg;
  • 1 tablespoon milk ob cream;
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla;
  • 1¼ cups sifted flour;
  • ¼ teaspoon double-action baking powder;
  • ¼ teaspoon salt;
  • 2 squares unsweetened chocolate(1oz) melted and cooled.

  3. Sift to-gether and stir in:
  4. Divide Dough into 2 equal parts.
  5. Into one part, blend;
  6. CHILL. Roll out white dough into a rectangle 9x12 in. Roll out chocolate dough the same size and lay over white dough. Roll the double layer of dough gently until 3/16 inches thick.Roll up tightly, beginning at wide side, into a roll 12 inches long and 2inches in diameter. Chill. Slice 1/8 in. thick. Place slices a little apart on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes in 350 degree oven.
