BARBECUED HAMBURGERS

Ingredients

  • 1½ lbs. ground beef
  • onion, garlic and celery salts
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ⅛ teaspoon chili powder
  • 1½ teaspoons brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon catsup
  • ¼ teaspoon hot sauce
  • ¼ cup vinegar
  • 1 cup tomato juice

Directions

  1. Shape 1½ lbs. ground beef into 6 or 8 patties.
  2. Marinate in barbecue sauce (see below) 2 to 3 hours in refrigerator.
  3. Remove from sauce and place on greased rack of outdoor fireplace or grill.
  4. Sprinkle with onion, garlic and celery salts.
  5. Broil quickly 2 to 3 minutes on each side or until cooked as desired.
  6. Hamburgers may be brushed with sauce while cooking.
  7. Barbecue sauce: Combine ½ teaspoon salt, ¾ teaspoon dry mustard, 1 teaspoon paprika, ⅛ teaspoon chili powder, 1½ teaspoons brown sugar, ¼ teaspoon catsup, ¼ teaspoon hot sauce, ¼ cup vinegar, 1 cup tomato juice.
  8. Simmer 15 minutes. Chill.

Timing

  • 2 to 3 hours
  • 2 to 3 minutes on each side
  • 15 minutes

Temperature

  • refrigerate, broil quickly, simmer, and chill
